Action Alert - HCR 2033 State Trust Exchanges for Wildlife Conservation
This bill is badly needed to facilitate land consolidation, particularly in the Northern part of the state where land ownership patterns appear like a checkerboard. With hundreds of
thousands of acres being developed - approximately one million acres in the last ten years - we must preserve wildlife migration corridors and large tracts of land for wildlife habitation.
Previously
this bill had cleared the House Natural Resource & Public Safety Committee on a party line vote with democrats voting nay. The bill was getting good support from House members and probably would have
received the necessary support to move it to the Senate for further action, however, the House Rules Committee Chairman decided that no state trust land bills would move out of his committee and thus the bill could
not go to the floor for a House vote.
So our wildlife can continue to wait for another two years before a bill can be sent to the ballot for a vote while thousands of acres of ranch land is developed without the benefit of
land exchange which would make it possible to consolidate land for development and consolidate land for wildlife habitat and migration corridors.
Please let Arizona House and Senate Leadership know this bill is important and that we cannot wait another two years for such an important piece of legislation. Click here for Senate Leadership and click here for House Leadership.
