2009 Youth Pheasant Hunt

The WCC assisted other sportsman’s clubs in sponsoring a youth pheasant hunt at Chauncey Ranch. Here is a note and photos from the father of one of the participants:

Hi, My Name is Jason Fitzsimmons

2009 Pheasant Hunt 2 RESIZEDMy son Seth took part in the Pheasant hunt that you sponsored on January, 24 2009. I wanted to thank you for one of the most rememberable times that I have ever witnessed. All of the volunteers were outgoing and only wanted to help the kids have a great time. And I can speak for Seth in saying he did. I hope you continue to be involved in programs that are as great as the one my son was privileged to be chosen for. These are the things that will keep children involved and excited about conservation of our wildlife for the future.

Let me tell you about the hunt.

We arrived 3 hours early. I was maybe too excited for Seth. We met some of the volunteers who took us down to a group that was already shooting clay pigeons. After a briefing on how they wanted the kids to handle the shotguns they let Seth into the rotation of shooters. I can’t tell you how grateful I was. Seth got a little extra practice that helped his confidence. The instructors were so good with these children. Helping them to hold the guns find their balance and track the targets in the air. Watching these 10 year olds knock flying targets out of the air is unforgettable. After this group was done we went back to the main area and had a wonderful lunch. And got with the group Seth was to be with. We went back to the shooting range and Seth shot more pigeons. All of the volunteers remembered him. They sent him over to a more advanced stage were the targets came from difficult directions. By this time he was hitting everyone it was awesome. You could tell all of the 2009 Pheasant Hunt 1 resizedinstructors were so happy and excited that all of kids. They were having as much if not more fun than the kids. When our group was done we all got in our vehicles and went to the fields were they started the hunt. The group of men that helped Seth were great. To watch all of them work so well together was awesome. I can’t tell you how cool it is to see the dogs work. I had never seen dogs hunt, point, and hold. That was unforgettable. And if you were wondering Seth got 2 pheasants. We went back to the main area and some volunteers showed Seth how to clean the pheasants. I am attaching photos of Seth and his pheasants.

Again I want to thank you and your origination for making this once in a lifetime opportunity happen.

Sincerely,

Jason Fitzsimmons
